The International Intellectual Property Institute (IIPI) welcomes the World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) publication of a report on the safeguarding of traditional cultures by museums, libraries, and archives.

The report, which was prepared by former IIPI employee Molly Torsen and her colleague Jane Anderson, was published under WIPO’s Creative Heritage Project. It offers legal information and compiles practical experiences on the management of intellectual property for cultural institutions whose collections comprise traditional cultural expressions.

IIPI is a strong supporter of the use of intellectual property to protect traditional artistic expressions. The report is an excellent addition to an underexplored area within intellectual property rights.

An electronic copy of the report can be found here.
